Creating Colorful ‘Geometry Cities’ at Beach Street
Sixth-graders in Kristin Grossi's and Theresa Robertson’s math classes at Beach Street recently worked on “geometry cities.” Students were given a blank map with instructions such as “make two streets parallel” and “draw a hospital that is a rhombus and place it on a ray.” They were tasked with completing the map while following the specifications. The map had to have a theme, and street and store names had to be labeled according to the theme. The students then enjoyed decorating their maps and making them colorful.
