ANNOUNCEMENTS

Good Morning. Today is Thursday September 29th. It is a GOLD day. Please stand for the pledge.

University of Miami and the University of Alabama will be here today. St. Joseph’s College and Towson University will be here Friday September 30th. Please sign up on Naviance or use the sign-up sheet in the Counseling Office if you would like to attend a college presentation.

Registration for the October 15, 2016 PSAT will take place today, Thursday and Friday outside the auditorium. The registration table will be open during lunch periods. Stop by with your registration form and pick up a booklet detailing important information about the PSATs.

The Environmental Club will be meeting today at 2:15pm in room 207. All are welcome.

The Class of 2017 Mr. and Miss West Islip competition is Wednesday, October 5th at 7:00pm in the auditorium. Admission for the show is $5.00. Come and support the Class of 2017 and all Senior performers!

Signups for Freshman Elections for Student Senate are in Room 139. See Mr. Moglia or Mr. Jablonski if you are interested. Elections are next week.

Attention all West Islip Students With Heartt members: There will be a meeting today immediately after school in room 298. Please bring in any spare Halloween decorations to use to decorate the halls for Halloween. All students are welcome to donate jars of peanut butter and jelly for upcoming events.

Sagtikos Manor Historical Society is looking for student volunteers to help with their Fall Festival, Sunday October 2 10:00 to 4pm.With this event you can earn many community service hours. Please contact Phyllis at 631-321-6809 or email: Phyllis@sagtikosmanor.org*

Reminder to all students applying for National Honor Society: Completed applications are due this Friday, September 30 and should be placed in the library. If you have further questions or concerns, please see an officer or email Mrs. Gifford.

The Varsity Volleyball Team defeated Bayshore yesterday winning 3-1. Julie Kohlhoff had 9 kills and 2 blocks. Brianna Adams had 18 digs and 2 aces.

The Girls Varsity Tennis Team defeated East Islip Wednesday 5 - 2. Winning for the Lions were Kristy Hazelton, Rosa Lettieri, Marion Wegener, Jennifer Cox, Miranda Paterno and Jillian Rabin. Congratulations ladies.

The Girls Gymnastics Team improved their record to 5-0 last night with a 159-143 win over Sachem. Hanna Battaglini won the floor exercise. Other outstanding scores came from Cait Leibman, Emily McGrade, Delaney Rivera and Kim Arena.

Yesterday the Girls Varsity Soccer Team defeated Centereach by the score of 2-0. The Lions were led by Gianna Raimondi who assisted on both goals. The goals were scored by Jaden Hampel and Kate Kohler. Morgan Iacono had 5 saves and Adriane Casey had 3 saves in goal. Great job girls and good luck tomorrow against Newfield.

Teachers and students: If you're interested in buying Yankee Candles products for Thanksgiving and the holidays, please see Ms. Nilsen in Rm. 183 or find any member of Thirst Project. All orders will arrive in time for gift giving. Thank you for your support.

Attention all wrestlers and anyone who might want to participate: There will be wrestling intramurals Mondays after school from 2:30-3:30 and Wednesday nights from 6:30 to 8pm. This is open to all who would like to participate.

Volunteers are needed for the Autism Community Walk being held at Belmont lake State Park on Sunday, October 16th from 9am to 2pm. Volunteers would assist in setting up the walk, help participants and enjoy a fun day of outside activities. If interested, please contact John Gilmore at 516-382-0081. Attention Seniors: Community Service hours are available by volunteering at the Brittney Walsh Memorial Scholarship Fundraiser. The date is October 22nd at Farmingdale Lanes starting at 6:30pm. Help is needed at the door and with Chinese Auction. Please see Ms. Eichen in the Counseling Office.

The Girls Varsity Volleyball Team defeated Half Hollow Hills yesterday winning 3-0. The team was led by Emily McLeer with 11 kills and 5 digs.

Congratulations to The Boys Cross Country Team who placed first in a seven team crossover meet at Sachem North on Tuesday. The team was led by first place finisher Peter DeMicco followed closely by Kyle Thompson in second. Other top five team finishers were Greg Bove, Darius Benton and Dylan Marrone. Rounding out the scoring for the Lions were Andrew Paules and Nick Mangiamele. Congratulations!
Congratulations to the girls JV volleyball team on their 3-0 win against Half Hollow Hills West. The team was led by Olivia Capitano and Caitlin Neglia with five aces apiece. Great job by all!

The Boys Varsity Soccer team won its 3rd league game of the year yesterday defeating Centereach 2-1. Both goals were scored by Vinny Raccuglia. Brandon Cullen and Luci Fortunato recorded the assists. The Boys look for another huge win on Thursday when they travel to North Babylon.

Tuesday September 27, 2016 - Gold Day

The JV Football Team defeated North Babylon on Saturday 34-13. The Defense, led by Jack Altieri and Connor Geraghty was outstanding all game. Tom Gans and Pat Cunningham each blocked a punt while Mike LaDonna and Kyle Haff ran for two touchdowns a piece. Luke Alicea also caught a touchdown pass from Mike LaDonna. Bobby Decapua added 4 extra points to complete the scoring. It was a great team win!

If you have not taken your photo before October 31st you will not appear in the Senior Portrait Section of the yearbook. Please call Lifetouch at 631-861-2555 to schedule a photo if you have not already done so.

Attention Seniors: Baby pictures and senior quotes are due to the Yearbook before October 31st. Please visit the Yearbook EBOARD for specific directions about submission. These deadlines will not be extended.

The Varsity Football team had an exciting comeback victory against North Babylon this Saturday. The offensive and defensive lines battled hard for four quarters in this crosstown rivalry. Antonio Alicea started the scoring with a 42 yard reception from Jake Guercio in the first quarter. Jake Guercio added a 72 yard run for a touchdown in the 2nd quarter. Kevin DiCapua continues to come through with key points while going 1 for 1 on field goals and 3 for 3 on extra points.

The game changed with 5 minutes left when the punt team and Drew Cestaro successfully executed the 35 yard fake punt to help regain momentum. The offensive line took over with some key runs by Culkin and Cestaro before Guercio hit Valentino on 4th and 8 for the game winning touchdown pass. The defense played tough all game and was led by Tim Mullane who had 8 plus tackles and 3 in a row to seal the game.
A big congratulations to the Girls JV volleyball team on winning the John Glenn tournament on Saturday. The whole team played awesome all day long to become tournament champs. Caitlin Neglia was named Tournament MVP after the finals. Tatiana Adames and Catie Lang played incredible defense, while Brooke Russo and Nicole Vallinoto led the offense. Great job by all!!!

The girls varsity volleyball team defeated Deer Park yesterday winning 3 -1. Wet Islip was led by Alexa Rapisarda and Julie Kohloff with 12 kills each. Corrine Conste had 38 assists. Jordan Ilchert added 6 kills and 3 digs.

Congratulations JV Field Hockey Team on another win this weekend against Sachem North. It was a very even game until the second half where West Islip was able to score off of a break way. This all started with Ava Gildea and and she was able to score her first Goal of the season to win us a big game. The team is now 6-1-1 and will continue their streak today against East Islip.
