Attention Seniors: There are many opportunities for winning scholarships. Check in the Counseling Office for current applications.

The Varsity Baseball Team defeated East Islip on Wednesday in a rain shortened game. Ray Weber threw a no hitter striking out seven. At the plate the Lions were led by Weber, James Kory and Lou Antos who all drove in runs.

Please join us for our yearly Pie Tossing Contest on Monday night April 27th, 2015 at 6:30 in café A/B. All proceeds will go to the Ride for Life organization. Come throw pies at Mr. Daniels, Mr. LaCova, Mr. Rao, Mr. Weiss, Mr. Kane, Mr. Vitti, Mrs. Scudder and more.

Applications are now available in the Counseling Office for the Udall Road Middle School Scholarship. This scholarship will be awarded to a former Udall Road Middle School student who demonstrates leadership in their school and/or community. Deadline is Friday, April 24th.

Volunteers are needed to the Elizabeth T. McNamee Memorial 5K event on Sunday May 10th at the high school. Also, help is needed on Friday evening May 8th at 7:00 pm packing goodie bags and on Saturday at 10:am assisting around where needed. There will be a sign up sheet in the Main Office for May 9th. Community service credit will be given to students who are signed In and Out at the event.

Students who attended the BOCES field trip and will be participating in BOCES next year, must submit their BOCES application to the Counseling Office by April 30th.

The West Islip Soccer Club’s Special Needs soccer team is looking for volunteers to assist during practice. Any student wishing to help and get community service credits please contact Gayle Maginniss at 587-1873 or just come down to the field. We play each Sunday at 10am at Manetuck elementary school. No soccer experience necessary. Thanks!

The Elizabeth McNamee Memorial Fund is holding its annual Cell Phone & Ink Cartridge Drive. If you or any family members have old cell phones or ink cartridges and would like to discard them, please bring them to the main office. There will be a box provided for their disposal. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

Fall Sports Sign-ups will be held in all physical education classes from Wednesday April 15th until Friday April 24th. The Fall Sports Are: Field Hockey, Football, Boys Cross Country, Girls Cross Country, Boys Golf, Girls Gymnastics, Kickline, Boys Soccer, Girls Soccer, Girls Swimming, Girls Tennis, Boys Volleyball, Girls Volleyball, Cheerleading.

The National Honor Society will hold a meeting today at 2:15 in Cafeteria C. All members are expected to attend.

To all SADD members there will be a meeting next Monday on April 27th @ 2:15 p.m. We will be
discussing “Grim Reaper Day” and other activities. All members must attend.

If you are a student over the age of 16 and are looking for summer employment, the Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs for the Town of Islip is looking to employ students in various positions.
Applications are available in the Counseling Office.

This past weekend, the girls track team competed at the Connetquot Relays. The team of Meghan Bevan and Sara Mercurio broke the school record in the 2 x 1500 meter race walk relay. The team of Sam Jenks and Rachel Denzler broke the school record in the 2 x long jump relay, and the team of Amanda Iasparo and Kate Spence ties the school record in the 2 x high jump relay. Congratulations girls.

“The Varsity Softball Team improved its record to 10-2 with a win over Bayshore yesterday. Rachel Wandzilak was dominant in the 3 to 2 win, giving up no earned runs and striking out 13. She also led the offensive effort going 3 for 4 with 2 doubles. Amanda Arena had 2 hits and 1RBI. Erin Schweers had 1 hit and 1 RBI. Ayssa Adams had 1 hit and 1 RBI. Gia Raimondi, Mia Globuschutz, and Jess Perrone all had 1 hit. Another Solid Win Girls! The team will play in Walt Whitman this afternoon at 4 o’clock. Come out and support your team!”

Congratulations to the girls track team on the win yesterday against Bellport. The team of Brooke Catalano, Krista O'Connor, and Morgan Paules swept the 800m run for the 4th straight meet. Brittany Blindenhofer, Kate Spence, and Juliana Moses finished 1, 2, 3 in the 100 m dash. Other Great performances were Sam Jenks in the triple jump and 400 meter, Klaire Klemens in the 1500, Hanna Battaglini and Amanda Iasparo in the 100m hurdles, Lindsey Gellar and Helen Filosa in the Shot Put, and Meghan Bevan and Allison Tantone in the Race walk. Great job and good luck this weekend at the West Hampton Beach Invitational.

Yesterday the Boys Varsity Track Team defeated Bellport to raise their record to 4 wins and 0 losses. The Lions were led by Kyle Kelly who took 1st place in the mile and 2 mile, Mike Martiny who won the 400 meter, Dan Cameron who took a 2nd in the 2 mile and Evan Sigorous who took a 3rd in the 400 meter. Way to go boys and good luck in your nest meet May 7th against East Islip.

The Thirst project will meet today April 22nd at 2:15 in room 183. We have three events left this year to fund raise for the El Salvador water well. Please make every effort to attend this important meeting. Thirst Project – Wednesday April 22nd immediately after school.

The Boys Varsity Tennis Team defeated North Babylon on Tuesday 4-3. Winning for the Lions were Ben Dookram, Brandon Glass, Artie Singer, Dylan Beasley and getting his first Varsity win Griffin Costello. Congratulations Team.

Earth Day is today April 22nd. In celebration of Earth Day, one eco-friendly fact will be given each day this week. Happy Earth Day! The eco-friendly fact of the day is: Everyday American businesses generate enough paper to circle the earth 20 times.

The Varsity Softball team won its 9th game yesterday with a win over Copiague. Mia Globuschutz and Taylor Whitney combines for a 1 hit shutout. Christina Leonard led the offense with 4 hits and 4 RBI’s. Sam Rummo had 3 hits and 3 RBIs. Melanie Regan had 3 hits and 1 RBI. Stephanie Neglia, Amanda Arena, Marissa Demartino, and Mia Globuschutz all had 2 hits. The team’s next opponent is Bay Shore today at home. Come out and support your Lions!

The deadline for the Women of West Islip has been extended to May 15th. If you are extremely involved in community service and plan to incorporate social service into your college years, please apply for this scholarship.

Thank you to all those who attended and performed in last night’s West Islip Rocks Variety Show. We raised $415 for this year’s Dollars for Scholars Scholarships. Not too shabby for a rainy Monday night!

The Varsity Softball Team improved their record to 8 and 2 Friday when they shutout Newfield by a score of 4 to 0.
Rachel Wandzilak pitched 7 innings of 1 hit ball while striking out 15. Wandzilak also led the offensive effort with 3 hits and 1 RBI, Stephanie Neglia had 3 hits, Gia Raimondi had 2 hits and 1 RBI, Amanda Arena had 2 hits, and Erin Schweers had 1 hit and 1 RBI. Christina Leonard, Marissa DeMartino, and Jess Perrone all had 1 hit in the game. The Lions square off next against Copiague Tuesday. Come out and support your team!"
