In a battle of will and attrition, the Boys Varsity Basketball team outlasted Centereach in a marathon, crucial League 3 basketball game on Thursday, in a double overtime affair, by the score of 78-74. Stephen Davidson iced the game with 5 seconds to go by hitting 2 freethrows to put the Lions up by the final margin of 4. Max McNicholas’ key 3 point play, assisted by Dan Francke, was a key point in the 2nd overtime. Bryan Woodburn led all scorers with 25 points and 7 more three-pointers, while Dan Cunningham chipped in 16 points. Frank Fiorino pitched in 10 points as well, with Davidson scoring 11. The Lions play home against Smithtown West in the new year, Tuesday, January 6th at 5:45 pm.

Last night the Girls Varsity Basketball Team defeated Centereach by the score of 49 to 38. The Lady Lions were led by Rachel Hunter’s 30 points, Sarah Feminella’s 15 rebounds and Vanessa Costantino’s 5 steals and 5 assists.

Please contact Mr. Farnsworth in room 208, Nurse Kerrigan in the Nurse’s Office and Mr. Franzone in Room 109 for more information. Please come down to Babylon Lanes on January 3rd for a great night of fun, family and bowling.

Attention all students 16 years and older: Registration forms are now available for Spring Drivers Education. Applications can be picked up in the main office and on the Driver Education eBoard. Registration will take place on Tuesday, January 6th and Wednesday January 7th. A copy of your learner’s permit or junior license and a check are required to register. Please contact Mrs. Martinolich at Beach Street with any questions.

The Boys Varsity Bowling Team defeated North Babylon yesterday by a score of 21-12. Carmine Tardugno led the way with a high game of 234 and high series of 617 while winning 2 game points. Ron Forcino shot a 213 and won all 3 game points, Mark O’Connell rolled a 201, winning 2 game points and Joe Raucci scored a 201, winning 2 game points. The team’s next match will be Thursday vs. Islip at Babylon Bowl.

Please bring in your unwrapped gift along with wrapping paper or a gift bag and your tag to identify your gift to room 191 by Friday, December 19th.

The Girls J.V. basketball team defeated Copiague yesterday 26 to 12. Amanda Bockstruck led all scorers with six points.Julie Kohlhoff, Vicki Labetti, Julia Rion and Anna Hightower did an outstanding job rebounding. Congratulations to the team.

There will be an organizational meeting for any 9th or 10th grade boy trying out for JV lacrosse on Thursday, Dec. 18 at 2:15 in room 135 regarding box lacrosse.

There will be baseball winter workouts tonight at 6:15 for any boy interested in trying out for the varsity baseball team.

The winner of the today’s Freshman raffle is Jaclyn Armotta. Jaclyn please see Ms. Saadat after school for your prize.

Although the Boys Varsity Swimming & Diving Team opened their season yesterday with a loss against Ward Melville. There were 2 outstanding performances that must be highlighted. Chris Whalen won the 200 freestyle with a State Qualifying time of 1:46.58 giving him the opportunity to represent West Islip at the State Championships. Patrick Carter broke the 1 meter Diving record with a score of 329.62, beating the previous record by more than 11 points. Congratulations to both boys on an outstanding meet. The Team will compete Thursday at home against Hills, 4:00 start.

The Varsity Wrestling Team competed at the Cliff Clark Duals on Saturday. The team had 2 wins and 2 losses. They defeated Central Islip 61 to 18 and Bay Shore 51 to 21. Nick Colloca was named Most Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament, he won all 4 matches. Other wrestlers who turned in strong performances include: Devin Marino who also won all 4 matches and Chris Labriola and Zak Muhammad both won 3 matches.

The Boys Varsity Basketball Team completed a huge comeback win vs. Wantagh at home on Friday night. Trailing by 9 with less than 3 minutes to go, the team rallied. Dan Francke hit a big 3 pointer, Dan Cunningham and Frank Fiorino hit some clutch free throws, and Max McNicholas’s key offensive rebound and kickout to Bryan Woodburn for the go-ahead 3 pointer with 15 seconds to go put the Lions ahead for good at 51-50. The Lions cramped down defensively on the final possession to hold on for a thrilling win. Dan Cunningham led the way with 24 points and Bryan Woodburn had 11. The team plays its first league game at Copiague at 4pm on Tuesday, and hosts Centereach at home on Thursday at 5:45. Come keep supporting the team!
