Recruiting Tip of the
Week: "Have
clear expectations of the college programs you qualify for based
on athletic and academic performance, whether that’s DI, DII,
DIII, NAIA, or NJCAA. (And yes, DIII schools provide financial
packages, too!)"

West Islip Athletic Program
The West Islip Islip School District offers an interscholastic athletic
program with educational value for all students. It provides a varied
program for all boys and girls in grades 7 – 12, while offering 98
different teams and over 1,700 contests each year.
We believe interscholastic athletics serve as a miniature model of life,
providing opportunities for students with regard to responsibility, fair
play, cooperation, concern for others, leadership, respect for
authority, good citizenship, loyalty, and tolerance. It is a
competitive, not recreational program. Although winning games can be
considered the measure of success, we feel that this is not so. This is
not to say that the will to win is not important, but of greater
importance is the development of the person and affording each student
the opportunity to become all that he or she is capable of being. Thus,
the athletic program is a vital part of the total school curriculum.
Our programs are governed by the rules, regulations and procedures
prescribed by the New York State Public High School Athletic
Association, Section XI and the West Islip School District.

The 4 C’s
The goal of the West Islip School District Athletic program is to foster
the quest for excellence by creating an educational and competitive
experience within an atmosphere of sportsmanship. Successful programs
develop individual and team potential by promoting high standards of
competence, character, civility and citizenship. Each of these qualities
is defined as follows:
COMPETENCY
A student athlete in a quality program is competent in terms of skill
development, knowledge of the game/ strategies, fitness/ conditioning/
healthy behavior.
CHARACTER
A student athlete in a quality program demonstrates responsibility to
self, team and school, accountability, dedication, trustworthiness/ fair
play, self control.
CIVILITY
A student athlete in a quality program demonstrates civility towards
others showing respect, fairness, caring.
CITIZENSHIP
A student athlete in a quality program demonstrates citizenship through
actions. They show evidence of loyalty, commitment, teamwork, role
modeling.
*Being a member of the West Islip School District Athletic Team is a
privilege, not a right. Athletes are responsible, as a member of the
team, with their coaches, parents and teachers to continually strive to
better themselves in all 4 C’s.
Section XI Team, Coaches, Fans and School Sportsmanship
Every contest played in Suffolk County is rated by coaches and officials
for sportsmanship. Ratings are collected after each game and sent to
Section XI. Results are then tabulated for each team relative to other
teams in their league. Additionally, each school gets a post season
general rating. Fortunately, most of our coaches, athletes and
spectators are well behaved and our sportsmanship ratings are generally
quite high.“BE LOUD, BE PROUD, BE POSITIVE”
The children in this school district are covered against accidental
injury under a school time plan of insurance. Your child is covered
while attending school, during school hours, all interscholastic
activities including summer academic classes, attending school-sponsored
and school-supervised activities during the school term, and traveling
directly to and from school for either of the above.
Note: This coverage is in excess of any other insurance coverage
you may have on your child and claims are paid on a usual and reasonable
basis.
The policy states that notice of the claim must be given to the
insurance company within 45 days from the date of the accident. To
recover your medical expenses in excess of all other coverages you hold,
follow these steps:
PUPIL BENEFITS PLAN, INC.
