Principal Vanessa Williams at Manetuck recently created a special “History Is Made Daily” decoration on her door in support of Black History Month. While waiting on line for lunch, students have explored the door and identified African Americans who have made history in fields such as science, health, literature, music, sports and politics.

“The door is meant to be a conversation starter,” Williams said. “Our scholars initially looked for African Americans they are familiar with – such as Martin Luther King, Jr. and Rosa Parks – and walked away learning about other individuals like astronaut Mae Jemison and Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin.”
