At this year’s Section XI swimming and diving championships, West Islip High School senior Jacqueline Triglia took fifth place in the 200-yard individual medley. She swam the event in a school record-breaking 2:09.15, shattering her own prior school record of 2:12.14, which she had set just one week earlier.

Triglia is one of the most decorated swimmers in West Islip history, placing in the state championships, winning the 100-yard butterfly county championship in 2018 and 2019, as well as holding the following school records: 200-yard individual medley (2:09.15), 100-yard butterfly (55.91), 100-yard backstroke (59.11), 200-meter individual medley (2:29.81) and 100-meter butterfly (1:06.00).

Triglia is preparing to paint an oceanic-themed mural at the district’s Paul J. Bellew Elementary School and will pursue her studies this fall at the University of Rhode Island, where she intends to continue her swimming career.
