A total of 191 student-musicians from Beach Street and Udall attended the Long Island Music Festival at Suffolk Community College’s Van Nostrand Theater, chaperoned by parent and teacher volunteers. The West Islip groups – Beach Street’s and Udall’s seventh and eighth grade bands and orchestras, and Udall’s vocal ensemble – took home three Superior rating trophies and one Excellent rating trophy.
During the LIMF event, each performing ensemble had the opportunity to be rated by a panel of expert adjudicators. Each adjudicator provided a set of constructive comments, a clinic working on their performance music and a group rating. The day concluded with a visit to the Splish Splash water park in Calverton.
“This event was a musical and educational experience for all of the students who participated,” said Lynnette Fawess, the middle school orchestra director. “We are all extremely proud of the students’ hard work.”
