The district has named James Grover as the new director of math, business and family and consumer science, replacing the retired Kathleen Sapanski.

A resident of West Islip, Grover previously served as a math teacher at West Islip High School, as a basketball coach and supervisor of the high school’s Paw Prints newspaper club. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Rhode Island, his master’s degree in liberal studies from Stony Brook University, and his advanced master’s degree in educational leadership from Stony Brook University.

“As a lifelong learner, I am truly excited to serve this amazing district in a new capacity as a leader for the math, business and family and consumer science departments,” Grover said. “We have an incredible staff of dedicated and talented educators, along with students eager to learn. I believe that all students can experience success if we cultivate their curiosity and spark a passion for the discovery of deep learning. I look forward to working with everyone in the community.”
