High school science research students Evan Lam and Brett Powell participated in the Student Partnerships for Advanced Research and Knowledge program at Brookhaven National Laboratory this summer. The SPARK program enables students and teachers to collaborate with scientists at BNL facilities such as the National Synchrotron Light Source II to conduct research using world-class tools that are otherwise unavailable for student use.

The two West Islip students, both juniors, contributed to the analysis and communication of data collected by students in the SPARK program at the NSLS-II. Using the skills and knowledge they gained during their participation, Lam and Powell are now working on a proposal for their own research.
