The West Islip robotics team recently competed in the FIRST Robotics Competition at Hofstra University. Students on the robotics team design, fabricate and program their robot from scratch just within three months of the event. After 79 qualifying matches over two days, the West Islip team ranked an impressive 16th out of 47 teams from all around the world and was selected to compete in the playoff bracket. The judges awarded the team the prestigious quality award for outstanding machine robustness in concept and fabrication. The judges recognized the team as an example to others, stating “The quality of their technology would even make Neil Armstrong jealous.” Congratulations Team 871!
