Two Seniors Receive Scholarships from U.S. Army

Two West Islip seniors – twins Courtney Skahill and Christopher Skahill – were two of six students on Long Island who received full scholarships from the U.S. Army at a surprise ceremony held at the Suffolk County H. Lee Dennison building on April 26.

The two West Islip students were awarded more than $300,000 each to continue their education at St. John’s University next fall. The scholarships were awarded by the Minuteman Reserve Officer’s Training Corps., which offers guaranteed Reserves Forces Duty scholarships to cover full tuition and fees. The six Long Island students received $1.5 million in scholarships. The Skahill twins were joined by family members and West Islip School District Superintendent of Schools Dr. Paul Romanelli and West Islip Board of Education trustee Debbie Brown.
