On April 28, Mr. Wallace’s law classes at West Islip High School held an open forum with the Sheriff of Suffolk County Dr. Errol D. Toulon Jr. Some of the topics discussed included the role of the Civil Enforcement Bureau. In addition to civil enforcement, the deputy sheriffs assigned to this section also enforce penal law, criminal procedure law and vehicle traffic law. The Civil Enforcement Bureau’s law enforcement role encompasses all of the 10 townships that comprise Suffolk County. Students participated in a question-and-answer period with Sheriff Toulon. Students gained a better understanding of how the Sheriff’s Department functions within the communities and throughout Suffolk County.
