The district-funded Little Lion Cubs prekindergarten program recently debuted at all four of West Islip’s elementary schools, with a total of 114 students enrolled for this year. Prekindergartners attend either a morning or afternoon class for five days per week, with each session lasting 2 ½ hours. An eventual expansion to full-day pre-K is being explored.
“The pre-K program provides our youngest learners with an academic foundation via play-based experiences that will support their future success as students and individuals,” said Dawn Morrison, the district’s assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction. “The principals and teachers look forward to a fantastic year of learning and growth for our littlest Lions.”
