Manetuck recently got creative with a camping theme for the annual Pick a Reading Partner initiative. An entire hallway was decked out with a mock “campfire” setup and black lights to make it look like the students were under the stars. Classes took turns visiting the hallway and reading around the campfire with flashlights.  

Other Manetuck activities during this year’s PARP included staff and students dressing up as characters from favorite books; a Skype session with a local author; visits to West Islip Public Library; a Mad Science assembly; a Drop Everything and Read event where students wore pajamas and spent 30 minutes at the end of the day just reading; and a “PTA Night Under the Stars” with bookmark crafting, a book swap and a S’mores station, aided by West Islip High School student volunteers.
