As a kickoff to its Pick a Reading Partner initiative, Paul J. Bellew Elementary School held a special assembly with illustrator Chris Soentpiet on Jan. 31. Mr. Soentpiet spoke to the students about the artistic process that goes into illustrating books. Beginning by taking photos of his subjects and sketching in pencil to ultimately creating watercolor paintings, he explained that a whole book could take a year to complete. This year’s PARP theme is superheroes.
