Students in James Wood’s sixth-grade science class at Udall recently completed experiments to prove that the air in the earth’s atmosphere is matter. For one experiment, the class used a solar bag to demonstrate that air takes up space and expands when warmed. The solar bag’s air was heated and the bag rose to an altitude of approximately 30 feet.

“If not for the wind that day, the bag would have risen over 100 feet,” said Wood.
