The high school’s 2019 varsity football team finished another marvelous year, with the Lions winning multiple playoff games and another Big Four championship, playing in the Suffolk County championship game, and earning major recognition at the Suffolk County Football Coaches Association’s awards ceremony. Senior Kyle Haff was awarded the prestigious Collatta Award, naming him the best linebacker in the county. All-County honors were given to Haff as well as Bobby DiCapua, Jack Ilario, Will Reichel and Dominic Sagginario. Additional honors went to head coach Steve Mileti, who was recognized as the 2019 Division II Coach of the Year; with 72 varsity team victories, he is now the second winningest coach in the history of the West Islip football program.
