Art Students Inspired by Local Museum Trip

West Islip High School’s Advanced Placement art students recently visited The Heckscher Museum of Art in Huntington, an experience that continues to inspire and elevate young artists in the district.
During their visit, students explored the museum’s newest exhibitions, examining a wide range of professional artwork and techniques that connect directly to themes studied in their Advanced Placement curriculum. In addition to touring the galleries, students participated in a special orientation session for Long Island’s Best: Young Artists at the Heckscher Museum, one of the region’s most prestigious juried art shows. The program provided valuable insight into the submission process, artistic expectations and how to select museum pieces that will inspire their own competition entries.
Each year, the Long Island’s Best exhibition showcases outstanding work from high school artists across Long Island, and West Islip High School is proud to have had past students selected and recognized. This visit marks an exciting starting point for AP Art students as they begin developing their own pieces for potential submission. The trip offered a meaningful blend of artistic exploration, professional exposure and creative motivation.
