Delayed Opening Procedures

Delayed Opening Procedures & Closings Due to Weather

The West Islip Board of Education approved a delayed school opening for days of inclement weather. The implementation of a delayed schedule offers the district additional time to clear and sand all district driveways and parking lots. This two-hour delay will also provide adequate time for students and staff to arrive safely to their buildings. When school must be closed or delayed two hours due to weather conditions, a ParentSquare message will be sent and announcements will be made  over the following radio stations:

  • News 12 Long Island
  • WBAB 102.3 FM
  • WBLI 106.1 FM
  • WALK 97.5 FM
  • WBZO 103 FM/ WHLI 1100 AM / WRCK 103.9 FM / WKJOY98.3

If you would like to receive text message and/or emails regarding delayed openings and/or school closures, contact the IT help desk at (631) 930-1573.  A staff member will be able to assist you with enrolling in the ParentSquare messaging system.

Contact your building principal with any question regarding the delayed opening process.

Delayed opening procedures also apply to students attending nonpublic or parochial schools. Parents should check the school’s individual closing announcements. If the nonpublic or parochial school remains open, please add two hours to the student’s normal district pickup time on that day.
