Student Awarded Babylon Rotary Scholarship

Congratulations to West Islip senior Cara Thaxter on being awarded a $2,000 Babylon Rotary Scholarship in recognition of her outstanding academic achievements and dedication to community service.
Cara is an exceptionally active member of the school community and has made her mark in numerous programs throughout her high school career. She is involved in Vocal Motion, band, kickline and the school’s theater program, most recently performing as Cosette in “Les Misérables”. In addition, Cara serves as treasurer of the Student Senate while balancing an impressive commitment to volunteerism and leadership opportunities.
Among her many accomplishments, Cara has participated in the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) program since her sophomore year. After first attending as a participant, she returned as a facilitator and later became part of the leadership team responsible for organizing the conference.
