West Islip Appoints Assistant Director of Special Education

West Islip Union Free School District has named Tonimarie Young as assistant director of special education, effective July 1. Ms. Young joins Ms. Lindsey Ednick to complete the assistant director team.
Ms. Young has worked in the district since 2012, most recently serving as the districtwide behavior analyst, developing individualized behavior intervention plans and supporting student success across educational settings. Prior to that position, Ms. Young was a special education teacher at Paul J. Bellew Elementary School from 2012 to 2024.
“I am incredibly excited to join the administrative team in a district that I have proudly been part of for the past 15 years,” she said. “I look forward to serving alongside our dedicated teachers and staff, partnering with families, and supporting every student in reaching their greatest potential.”
She brings a strong educational background and diverse expertise in leadership, special education, and behavior analysis. Ms. Young earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Sacred Heart University, followed by a master’s degree from the same institution. She later obtained New York State certifications in special education and educational leadership through Dowling College and Stony Brook University, respectively. In addition, she is a board-certified behavior analyst, having completed certification through Pennsylvania State University. She also holds multiple New York State professional certifications.
